Winter Reading List 2017-2018
Hey everybody! So, I decided to keep up with my reading lists on the blog and I hope y'all enjoy looking through these! I'd love to eventually do some sort of book club or recommendations for people if they're interested, so if that's something you all would like to see, let me know!
I feel like I always read more in the winter just because it's cold outside, and there's nothing better than sitting by a fire with a book and some hot tea. I normally try to read more difficult content in the winter as well, I'm not sure why, it might be because the summer always just feels so much happier and light.
Let me know what you all are reading through this winter! I've linked the Amazon page for each book in the title if anything spikes your interest! (I'm not affiliated with Amazon in any way, I just normally buy my books off their site).
- The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien
I actually read The Hobbit a few years ago when the movies were coming out, and I loved it. I think I read the whole book in a day. I've tried to pick up LOTR a few times, but I never made it out of the Shire. I'm determined to make it through all three this time. I feel like these books are classics that everyone should read at least once, so I'm definitely making them through them this winter! I've also promised myself that I'll watch all three of the movies with Ian once I finish the books.
- Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett
- Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker by Gregory Maguire
I actually had no idea that this book was coming out. Ian's flight home for Thanksgiving got delayed, so I went to Target to kill time and saw it on the bookshelf. I read The Wicked Years by Maguire over the summer and I loved them! I've always been a huge fan of the Nutcracker, so when I saw he had decided to take a new twist on the Nutcracker story, I knew I had to get a copy, especially with it being so close to Christmas!
- This is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett
This was Reese Witherspoon's book club pick for November, and the way she talked about it really perked my ears up. I love Reese Witherspoon anyway, but the fact that she's an avid reader just solidifies my love for her even more. This book is a compilation of short stories by Patchett about relationships in general, and I thought being recently engaged, this book might be an even more enjoyable read! Ann Patchett also has an awesome bookstore in Nashville, TN. that I hope to check out soon!
- The Kremlin's Candidate: A Novel by Jason Matthews
This is the third book in Jason Matthews' Red Sparrow Trilogy, and the first two are so good. I am so excited for this book to be released in February 2018. I can't wait to see how Matthews wraps this trilogy up, and I have no doubt that it will be as good as the first two.
- A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
My mom read this book back in the summer, and she keeps telling me how I need to read it ever since she finished it. It's set in 1922 Russia, so it should definitely be interesting. I love anything historical fiction, so I'm excited to try this one out!
- The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
I've had this book sitting on my bookshelf for a couple years now I think. I always mean to get to it, but always end up reading something else before I get to it. The book is set post-colonial Africa starting in the late 50's. This is definitely out of my normal repertoire, but I'm excited to try it out.
- Still Me by Jojo Moyes
Who doesn't love Me Before You, honestly? Still Me is the third book following Louisa, and in my opinon, the two books after Me Before You will never be as good as the first because the first one is just. that. good. but you better believe I'm still going to read Still Me as soon as it comes out at the end of January of 2018.
- The Hamilton Affair by Elizabeth Cobbs
I picked this book up on sale at Target because I saw Hamilton and thought, why not? I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I relistened to the music from Hamilton recently on my commute, and it got me excited to read more about Alexander Hamilton's story again.
This is my current reading list for the winter, but I'm sure it will grow as we move towards spring. Let me know what you all are currently excited about reading. Happy reading!
