Healthy Habits to Start Young
Hey y'all! So, going off my New Year's resolution, I wanted to share with you all some of my tips and tricks for healthy habits that I've tried to start now that will hopefully stick with me in the future! I'm constantly trying to better myself and put more effort into all the things I do, I just always feel like I can do more and be better at what I'm doing. With our wedding coming up pretty quickly, I also wanted to go ahead and get in the habit of good routines that I can take with me when we move!
Drink More Water
Y'all. I cannot stress how important this one is. I know that everyone knows this, I mean, it's been stressed at us since we were in elementary school, but I feel like I've always struggled with drinking the right amount of water. I love my coffee and my sweet tea as much as the next person, but a habit I've been trying to develop is to drink as much water as I drink tea or coffee in a day. I normally stop on my way to work and get a half-and-half tea, and I bring my coffee from home, so once that's gone, I switch to water. I've also started drinking water at dinner instead of tea, and it's helped a lot more than I even thought that it would. One thing that really helps me keep this goal is to bring a refillable water bottle with me to work. I have a camelbak Ian got me that I absolutely love, and I feel like I'm damaging the environment less when I use a refillable bottle, so it's a win-win! I always feel better and have more energy when I drink more water, and let's face it, my skin looks a lot better too.
Stick to a regular exercise plan
Starting healthy habits, especially when it comes to fitness, when you're young is so important. I hear people say all the time that they wish they had started running or working out more before they got married and had kids because it would have already been something they felt like they needed to do at that point. As we get older and our daily lives get more stressful, it's hard to make that time to take care of yourself when you're not already used to doing it. That's why it's so important to me now to start those habits so that they're already developed by the time I move with Ian. Plus running and working out in general are amazing stress relievers and make you feel great about yourself. My plan, that I don't always stick to as much as I should, is to run at least 3x a week, do strength and weight training 3x a week, and do yoga on my rest day.
Have a regular skincare routine
So, this is actually something I'm still working on getting right, but I'm getting there! Taking care of your skin is SO important for so many reasons. I'm going to do a more in depth post on my skin care routine later this week, but my piece of advice for now would be to find what's right for you. There are tons of products on the market that people love, but they just don't work for me. So try different things out, but if they're not working for you, or you don't have the time, find something else that suits you better, even if it isn't the latest trend.
Take time to unplug and relax
I think this is so incredibly important for our generation. I'm going to do a blog post totally devoted to this and ways to unplug later on, but I cannot stress enough how much I try to give myself this time. One of my New Year's resolutions has been to not be so tied to social media and technology in general. I have a high-stress job 75% of the time, so giving myself time to unplug and relax each night has really helped me lately.
These are just a few of the healthy habits that I'm working on developing now that I intend to carry with me as we move every few years. I'll keep y'all updated on my progress, and hopefully it continues to go well as we get further into the new year! Until next time!
