Trip to New York and 100th Night at West Point
I just got back from New York a week ago, where we were celebrating Ian's 100th night weekend at West Point. 100th night is such a huge deal because it signifies the (less than) 100 nights left until graduation and commissioning! I personally was a huge fan of Ring Weekend because of all of the excitement around getting class rings (and because it was warm, let's be honest), but 100th night was also really exciting! In addition to the normal dinner and speaker, this time it was the current Surgeon General of the Army, there's also a play written, directed, and performed by seniors that showcases all of the big events during their time at West Point.
It was also really neat that this event was semi-formal for both guests and cadets. Ian and I had a great time playing cadet or guest during dinner, because normally it's really easy to tell when 1/2 are in uniform and 1/2 are in formal wear. I also really enjoyed matching Ian's tie to my dress. Not going to lie, I always love a good coordinating outfit. We also had a really good snow while we were in the play! On our way down, it had started to flurry a little bit, but by the time it was over, there were literally inches on the ground. Just walking from Ike Hall to the barracks, we were literally covered in snow. My hair was soaking wet just from walking to the barracks and the car!
After 100th night on Friday, we were free to do whatever we wanted on Sunday and Monday until my flight left. We stayed in Tarrytown, the real life "Sleepy Hollow" and home to the Rockefeller Mansion. It's only about 30 minutes outside of NYC by train, so of course we took advantage of the proximity to the city to head in for a day. After a huge snow dump the night before, we actually had beautiful weather while in the city!
Ian and I always go check out the TKTS booth in Times Square while we're in the city, we've gotten great deals on shows there before. I tried to convince him to go see Anastasia again, but he wasn't really having any of that. Instead of seeing a show this time, we decided to catch an afternoon showing of the Greatest Showman. I know, we are really late to the game on this one, but oh. my. gosh. It was so good! Ian and I both looked at each other as soon as the credits started to roll and said "wow, that was amazing!" I literally cannot think of one bad thing about that movie. The choreography was amazing, and I'm still listening to the soundtrack!
Before we saw Greatest Showman, we stopped in Carlo's Bakery in Times Square, because I'm in love with their strawberry eclair. It's honestly probably one of the best desserts I've ever eaten, and I make Ian go in there every time we're in the city. After the movie, we went to John's of Times Square, which is my go-to restaurant in the city. I LOVE their pizza and the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's in an old cathedral, and it's so beautiful inside. I also love that you can literally see them putting the pizza in brick ovens as you wait, my mouth is watering just typing this. They also have a dairy free pizza base, which makes me so happy because having a dairy allergy, I normally can't eat pizza.
I was so glad to have such a low key weekend with Ian and really just get to spend time together for 100th night and a late Valentine's day. Tarrytown is the cutest little town, full of cute eateries like EaTarry, where we had breakfast on Saturday morning. The proximity to the city without staying in the city, and its closeness to the Palisades, we were both really big fans of. It was a great, relaxing weekend, and I'm so excited for our next trip together, but I'm even more excited that the next time I'll be in New York it will be for Ian's graduation! 89 days and counting!
